Since late 2011 when the Obama administration released the We the People section on the whitehouse.gov website, people have been creating and signing petitions. If more than 25,000 people sign a petition, the white house will release a response. In this case, 34,000 people concluded that building a “Star Wars” inspired superweapon might be a way to create more jobs. However, in the official response from the Obama administration, Paul Shawcross says that there would be problems with creating a Death Star. First, it would cost an estimated $850 quadrillion and that would be a problem when America is trying to reduce the deficit. Second, “The Administration does not support blowing up planets”. Lastly, the Death Star is flawed in that it can be exploited by a one-man starship. Building a moon-sized spacestation that can destroy planets with a laser beam is a terrible idea. Now that the Death Star is off the table, any idea for job creation will be better than the last.
