In 2011, when a tsunami struck Japan 16,000 residents where displaced. Nuclear radiation and the aftermath of the tsunami left the small town of Tomioka in ruins.
The beautiful yet eerie footage shows how the residents were forced to leave their possessions behind. A gate barred residents from being able to return to the nuclear waste site that was once their home.
The hazardous radiation leaked from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant during the disaster. Since then, HEXeMedia was allowed to capture the progress of the cleanup crew from the University of Tokyo. The cinematography portrays the cautionary tale of Mother Nature’s destructive power and the dangers of nuclear power.
