Lessons in Depth: Book Sculpture Art

Usually when a book is destroyed, it’s a travesty but with Brian Dettmer it’s a different story. He binds informational books together, glues them, and carves them to create unparalleled depth in his artwork.

His medium often starts with encyclopedias but doesn’t stop there. He has created works from magazines, electronics manuals, and even non graphic books. His sculptures are not cheap though. They can cost tens of thousands of dollars.
