Scientists at Oregon State University have recently developed and patented a new strain of seaweed that tastes like bacon when it is fried. They have named this particular strain "dulse" and have gone on to say that it has "twice the nutritional value of kale and tastes just like bacon."
Originally, the red seaweed was being grown to feed abalone snails kept in captivity. Research started when a surplus of seaweed was initially produced. Researchers are now trying to find ways to take advantage of their discovery and make a wide range of edible products with this new dulse.
I’d personally be down to try this new creation. Saying that it tastes like bacon is a pretty lofty claim and I’d like to see if it holds up. Actual bacon (like the one pictured above) is just so good, I can’t see how anything can even come close.
